The Circus Amok Band
Circus Amok has presented free political circus shows to the people of New York City since 1989. Providing the soundtrack to their one-ring spectacle is the Circus Amok Band, a tight-knit group of five playing an eclectic repertoire of unlikely circus tunes. Featuring Jenny Romaine on vocals and accordion, Jessica Lurie on saxophone, Ben Meyers on trombone, Mary Feaster on bass guitar and Lee Free on percussion.  

Sun Ra meets Bhangra meets funk meets traditional circus with the Amok band, who, like the company for whom they play, put a highly nuanced and radically humorous, gender-fluid spin on every note audiences hear. Addressing issues of social justice through circus arts, humor, slapstick and song, Circus Amok invites spectators to envision a more empowered life of community interaction while enjoying a queer celebratory spectacle.
