CHICO ALVAREZ Y MAFIMBA
A staple of New York’s Afro Cuban seen for over three decades, Chico Alvarez was born in Brooklyn but grew up in Cuba. He has led a number of bands including his ten piece conjunto "Mafímba." He is also the host of the radio program the New World Gallery, a weekly music show which airs on Sunday afternoons on WBAI Pacifica Radio (99.5 FM). His music has deep Cuban roots and a strong New York flavor.
