Loboko is rooted in Congo’s ubiquitous soukous sound, one of Africa’s most popular musical exports that’s conquered dance floors from The Continent to France to Colombia.
The band is led by Yohni Loboko (Yohni Djungu-Sungu) a virtuosic guitarist, singer and multi-instrumentalist from the Democratic Republic of Congo and based in Brooklyn and co-founded by DJ and journalist Morgan Greenstreet. Yohni has performed with legends of Congolese music Fally Ipupa, Paris' Soukous Stars and Zaiko Langa Langa. They are joined by multi-instrumentalist and producer Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and bassist Brice Armel-Adjo from Ivory Coast. They will be joined by special guest singer Lollise.
Loboko’s unique style draws on classic Congolese soukous, rumba, and contemporary seben creating a transatlantic sound that connects Kinshasa, Paris, Colombia, NY.
In 2023, Loboko released a vinyl '45: Kanyunyi / Ekenge with the acclaimed Brooklyn label Names You Can Trust.
