About Golden Hour Podcast:
Golden Hour is hosted by Charlene Kaye (@charlenekaye on IG), a musician, actor, and comedian based in New York. She is best known for her catalogue of music under the name KAYE, her hit comedy solo show Tiger Daughter presented by Margaret Cho, and her viral reels in which she goes to Guitar Center to troll guitar bros – by playing John Mayer riffs loudly and incorrectly.
Celebrating her Asian heritage and building community is a core part of Charlene’s work. Growing up in Arizona in the early 2000s, Growing up in Arizona in the early 2000s, Charlene didn’t have very many Asian musicians to look up to except Cassandra Wong from Wayne’s World. When anti-Asian sentiment swept America in 2020 in the wake of COVID-19, she found herself wanting to connect more deeply with other Asian musicians – and realized they were few and far between.
That yearning for community and connection turned into the podcast Golden Hour, hosted by Charlene and her longtime friend Dave Yim. The podcast is currently in its fourth season with over 30 episodes to date, including guests such as Darren Criss of Glee, Sameer Gadhia of Young the Giant, Asian-American revolutionary folk musician Nobuko Miyamoto, and many more.
