LILA Sessions is an intimate concert series showcasing the sacred and ancestral sounds of the world, where music becomes a bridge between cultures, spirit, and tradition.
Session 001:The Spiritual Music of Issawa ft. Sidi Adil El Gouchi
Recorded in Fez, Morocco
Issawa music stems from the centuries-old tariqa, or Sufi order, founded in Meknés, Morocco. It is a spiritual music characterized by collective hymns accompanied by trumpets and pipes that pierce through a barrage of polyphonic drumming, creating trance-inducing sounds.
Their complex ritual ceremony, which features symbolic dances and rhythmic music, is intended 'to wake the faithful', both literally and figuratively.
