The duo is based in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, and plays their own brand of transe music using a babatone (a one string washtub type of bass) and a 4 string guitar in lieu of Malawi’s traditional banjo.
Yosefe and Yobu started out as buskers and wedding musicians before releasing their debut album on the excellent Bongo Joe label. They have since toured all over Europe and are now embarking on their first US tour. Despite the rustic aspect of their instruments and the apparent simplicity of their harmonies, their music possesses the hypnotic precision of the best minimalist compositions.
