Described by the NYC Jazz Record as “an intrepid composer, architect of sound and beast of the bass…”, bassist, composer, and Barbes mainstay Max Johnson is one of the most prolific music makers today. He has recorded nearly 20 albums, performed with legends like Anthony Braxton, Geri Allen, Mary Halvorson, David Grisman, Tyshawn Sorey, Henry Grimes, been commissioned by the Jerome Foundation, the Society of Composers Inc, and can be heard in Spike Lee’s Academy Award winning, “The BlacKkKlansman”. For this concert, Johnson presents a quartet of some of New York's finest jazz musicians through his energetic, swinging, chaotic original compositions with Caleb Curtis on Alto Saxophone, Santiago Leibson on Piano, and Jeff Davis on Drums.
