Grandmothers of Invention (Zappa alumni), Lili Haydn, Matt Darriau and many others. Max is also the lead guitarist of the Magic Band with John “Drumbo” French which performs the music of
Captain Beefheart around the world.
Max will present a live adapted performance of
Pat Martino's 1968 album "Baiyina: (The Clear Evidence):
A psychedelic excursion through the magical mysteries of the Koran". The unique ensemble chosen for the show will feature
Matt Darriau (alto sax/flute),
Hearn Gadbois (percussion),
Dave Ambrosio (bass) and
George Schuller (drumset)"
About the album: "The late Pat Martino’s Baiyina measures up to and perhaps even surpasses John McLaughlin’s more celebrated Eastern-facing explorations, employing droning sitars, hypnotically tapping tabla, unusual time signatures, and a crack band to craft a jazz guitar-forward answer to Coltrane and Ravi Shankar (and presages Miles’ In a Silent Way with its quietly pulsing improvisational probes)."
