has been described as "ebullient" by the New York Times, "composer of eminent individuality" by Yusef Lateef and was voted #1 Rising Star Clarinetist in DownBeat Magazine's 2016 Critics Poll. Etkin's music can be heard on numerous recordings including a Grammy Award winning album and he has been a Barbes regular, playing for 12 years every Wednesday with Mandingo Ambassadors. In April 2020, as the world was closing down, Etkin's response was Open Arms Project: a series of singles and music videos that he had recorded and filmed shortly before the closures, working with great masters in Rio de Janeiro, Harrare Zimbabwe, Prague, Paris and São Paulo. Since the music world has begun reopening, Etkin has been reimagining the music of Open Arms in various live configurations, at times interweaving live band performances with electronics composed from stems from the original recordings. The exact configuration for this evening will be announced shortly.
