Paintings In The Garden VI (PITG6) “I SEE You”
by Alicia Aberdeen Art, LLC
Paintings In The Garden (PITG), an annual art show and fundraiser produced by Alicia Aberdeen Art LLC, now in its sixth installment, is committed to creating spaces for artists of the Caribbean diaspora and beyond, to shine and represent the many layers of our creative culture. This year the event will showcase fine art and performing arts from the Caribbean arts community in a one-day extravaganza hosted by and at the Consulate General of The Republic of Trinidad & Tobago NYC, followed by a full exhibit for one week.
PITG6 will mark the fifth year of partnership with the Consulate and we believe that being hosted there is a “coming home” of sorts. The first exhibit in NYC for the founder was at the T&T Consulate in 2006. Many years later we are succeeding in using the art to foster relationships and partnerships while fulfilling our philanthropic promises and aspirations. In 2024 we will do a repeat-partnership with The Coalition For The Homeless NYC, and will again seek to bring relief to the Serenity Place Empowerment Center for Women in Trinidad. Funding from PITG6 will provide much needed assistance to help families in the NYC Shelter system, as well as assist the facilitators of drug rehabilitation in Trinidad & Tobago, while continuing to establish the PITG brand as a self-sustaining philanthropic organization promoting Caribbean Arts and Culture in the region.
Our Purpose and Mission
At Alicia Aberdeen Art, LLC, we work on art shows and projects that drive Trin'bagonian and Caribbean culture in in a variety of ways. These art shows spotlight Caribbean culture and heritage that celebrate genres of talent while championing real causes in real-time. We are able to use the greatness of creativity to truly help people in need. In this way, we pay-it-forward immediately! A percentage of ticket sales, as well as proceeds from every piece that sells go directly to families poised and in need of that helping-hand. This year, a percentage again goes toward aiding rehab centers in Trinidad.
Paintings in The Garden VI (PITG6), carded for December 6th, can and will provide such aid while celebrating the wonderment and marvel of life and its gifts to us.
PITG6 will offer insights into my “I SEE You” series, celebrating ALL peoples and embracing the beauty of our differences. Here, we do see color; we do see race; we do see gender. We also see inequities, and we see
injustices. We SEE it /them all and we are celebrating them where we can and spotlighting where we can improve.
Already onboard are artists, YZ Art (twins thriving through autism) and from Trini shores, Tyla Villaurel.
We rejoice in the hard work and all that goes into this plight; for coming this far in our mission and we’re making a salute to the work ahead. We want to revel in the positive side of things amidst all the madness and confusion that have seemed to become the norm. We are a movement from the ground up and will showcase our many different positive sides as a people!
Venue
We will be hosted by the Consulate General of The Republic of Trinidad & Tobago NYC. The event date is December 6th, 2024.
There is Always a Cause – My backstory, My why!
For the past 5 years I have been open about my reasons for helping those in need. It stems from my personal experiences dealing with drug addition in my own family. My brother Sheldon “Sketch” Aberdeen, a known addict for over 30 years; also known for his very public battles with recovery/sobriety, has now relapsed and is currently on the streets again. This only reinforces my zest and determination to make a difference as it pertains to helping the facilitators of real rehabilitation in Trinidad.
I was recently able to visit with Serenity Empowerment Rehab Center For Women in Guapo, Point Fortain, Trinidad where I met with the director of the facility, Mrs. Beverly Morson. Our takeaway is, there is a tangible need for an infrastructure that is conducive to wholistic rehabilitation and reintegration into society for recovering addicts. Serenity Rehab Center clearly deserves our focus.
For the families receiving aid, PITG is a small avenue of community outreach with a big impact on the lives of those we touch. I’m determined to use my God-given talents for these and other humanitarian causes. This, I believe, is my calling in life.
