TROPICAL VORTEX is Barbès long-running series showcasing all manners of tropical styles from Latinolandia with live band and DJs playing cumbia, chicha, guaguanco, mambo, plena, Sanjuanitos and other styles of vintage or not so vintage styles. Past artists include Combo Chimbita, Chicha Libre, Los Cumpleaños, Bulla en el Barrio with appearances by Chico Trujillo, Son Rompe Pera, Paito y los Gaiteros de Punta Brava, Ceferina Banquez and many many more..

BULLA EN EL BARRIO - Back for the first time in 3 years!
Led by Barranquilla native Carolina Oliveros (Combo Chimbita), the drummers and singers of Bulla en el Barrio explore new and classic Bailes Cantados of Bullerengue. Bullerengue originated on the Carribean Colombian coast of Colombia. The music has deep African roots, it consists mostly of drummers and female singers and possesses a mesmerizing, trance-like quality. Carolina Oliveros belongs to a younger generation of cantadoras who have a deep connection to the tradition but have also been influenced by all the music they were exposed to growing up: classical music, rock and cumbia among others.
