Dr. Pradip Chakraborty was born in Kolkata in 1944. He has been playing and learning sitar since 
childhood. His first teacher was his uncle Anath Chakrabarti, who was a well known musician. 
He also took lessons from the famous sitarist Amiyakanti Bhattacharya.

Later he became the disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. Under his valuable guidance he became a 
successful sitarist. He has played sitar on All India Radio and in many musical festivals 
throughout India. He also a received a Ph. D. from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai 
for his research work.

At present, he is teaching classical instrumental music and has dedicated his life to the 
development of Indian classical Music.
