Roots in Sound is a three day festival created and curated by David Virelles dedicated to showcasing the depth and diversity of modern music in New York City. The programming highlights a cross-generational exchange among musicians, embracing both seasoned
artists and emerging voices. It will feature concerts, listening sessions and discussions, fostering an immersive experience for audiences and artists alike.
Eric McPherson, born and raised in New York, was immersed in music from an early age, influenced by his godfather, jazz bassist Richard Davis. By age three, he declared his ambition to become a drummer, and by eight, he was teaching himself on a borrowed drum set. He began formal lessons at twelve with master drummer Michael Carvin and soon formed a duo with saxophonist Abraham Burton, performing at rallies and stages like Barry Harris’ Jazz Cultural Theater. Eric attended the LaGuardia High School of the Arts and played in the New York All-City High School Big Band, making his debuts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center while winning multiple Outstanding Soloist Awards.
