Unicorn Bar and Reflections on a Silver Screen present DESERT HEARTS, with special guest Patricia Charbonneau

Unicorn Bar and Reflections on a Silver Screen present a screening of Donna Dietch’s sapphic indie classic DESERT HEARTS, with special guest Patricia Charbonneau, on Wednesday, October 23rd at 8pm. 

Based on the novel by Jane Rule, DESERT HEARTS tells the story of Vivian, a buttoned-up, 1950s urbanite professor (played by Helen Shaver) who travels to the Reno desert in order to establish residency before divorcing her husband. While there, she befriends an eclectic cohort of women – including the free-wheeling Cay (Charbonneau), whose charm inspires Vivian to rethink her life… and sparks a sexual awakening, too.

This free screening will be followed by a Q&A with Charbonneau, who will discuss her experience making the film as well as its legacy as a landmark in queer cinema. Co-hosted by Ben Rendich, a local filmmaker and writer whose work focuses on themes of queerness and self-discovery.
