Join us for an evening of original Vietnamese-French-American jazz featuring internationally acclaimed singer Đồng Lan and genre-defying ensemble Rebirth Canal. A masks-required concert.
Artists
Born in a small village in Hải Dương Province, in Northern Vietnam, Đồng Lan gained national attention as a semi-finalist on the first season of The Voice Vietnam (2012). Since then, she has performed in over 13 countries on 3 continents and won multiple international awards. Lan drew significant attention in 2019 with her album Này Em Có Nhớ, or Chérie, Tu Te Rappelles in French. In 2024 her single "Người yêu có bạn gái" ("My boyfriend has a girlfriend") reached #1 on Spotify Vietnam’s Viral Top 50. Lan describes her new project, RedMoon: "I want us to sing songs of love, especially for the parts of our bodies that are scarred or imperfect. Women need to love every part of themselves, especially those that society criticizes or stigmatizes. Society doesn’t understand us the way we understand ourselves, so why should we let its judgments define us?"
Note from Camille: before this performance, the RedMoon project did not account for trans experiences because the artist was unfamiliar with trans communities. After we talked about it, the project will be expanded in 2 directions; the "RedMoon" aspect that seeks to celebrate and lift the taboos around the monthly period, will expand to all people who have a period, woman, man, and more... And the aspect celebrating and loving women will be about all women whether or not they have periods.
San Francisco's Camille Mai is an artist who keeps every door open. A pianist, vocalist, composer and leader of the uncategorizable band Rebirth Canal, they've created a protean body of songs infused with Latin American rhythms, French Chanson, traditional Vietnamese modes, jazz improvisation, and far beyond. Stay tuned for their first full-length album, funded by a San Francisco Arts Commission grant and due for 2026!
High-quality (N95, KN95, KF94 or higher) masks are required to be worn at all times. (A variety of masks will be available for free on a first-come first-served basis!)
If you purchase a drink, it must be consumed using an airtight drinking valve and straw. Drinking valves preaffixed to a mask will be available for free. Disclaimer: these are generic valves and were NOT purchased through SipMask, however the valve itself is the same product from Tablecraft that SipMask uses in their sip valve.
