Family Constellations is a therapeutic approach and practice that recognizes how our family's emotional history lives within us, often unconsciously shaping our experiences, behaviors, and struggles. Developed by Psychotherapist, Bert Hellinger, this method acknowledges that healing often needs to happen at both an individual and systemic level.

While traditional talk therapy primarily focuses on individual healing, Family Constellations expands our perspective to include the entire family system.

When we think of the Soul a lot comes to mind — and most of it is often confusing because the one fact everyone agrees on is that it is something we cannot see nor fully grasp. What is the Soul? Does it even exist? How can we understand it?

Mystics like Theresa of Avila, scholars, artists, philosophers, scientists, and even different religions have long tried to make sense of the Soul, find ways to capture it, and/or question its existence.

In this Olio we'll explore the Soul through the lens of Family Constellations: an interior landscape where much of our past and that of our ancestors is stored. We look at the Soul as a map that helps us navigate through ancestral entanglements and blocked movements within us which don’t allow us to move forward in our everyday lives.

Listening to, uncovering, and learning from these Soul movements form the core practice of Family & Systemic Constellation work.

Through interactive lecture and a brief guided meditation, we will get invited to explore our own Soul movements to help us better understand ourselves, our loved ones, our family, and the people around us.

*Though we are learning about the ideas of Family Constellations at this Olio, we won't be setting up constellations or working through anyone's personal family history, and no prior experience is needed.

Our teacher for the evening:
Luisa Muhr is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist and Family & Systemic Constellations practitioner, originally from Vienna, Austria, with Hungarian and Anatolian-Greek roots. She considers herself a “Field Worker” and was introduced to Family Constellations in early childhood. Muhr later studied with her mentor Dr. Peter Orban, who grew out of the early Constellation work in Germany. Alongside her healing arts practice, Muhr is an experimental vocalist and interdisciplinary artist whose work spans voice, sound, movement, improvisation, installation, performance art, and experimental music theater.

The evening flow:

What Is an Olio?

Think Olio is an ongoing experiment in lifelong learning. We are a community of open-minded people who gather to exchange ideas with new friends and connect over art, literature, and philosophy.

An Olio is what we call the social learning events we’ve been organizing since 2015. A blend between a lecture and a house party, Olios are led by a teacher who loves sharing their passions and the room is filled with curious, open-minded New Yorkers.

Our goal is to spark new perspectives, ignite curiosity, and enjoy ourselves socially offering an alternative to typical nightlife options.
