This month, a10 kitchen is introducing something completely different in celebration of local music, community, and connection.

Join us for a special Iftar dinner at dusk, with live music by Neel Murgai and Tripp Dudley of Brooklyn Raga Massive.
For those observing Ramadan or simply wanting to experience the beauty of Iftar in community, you're welcome at the table.

Neel Murgai (sitar, effects) and Tripp Dudley (tabla, percussion) will provide evening raga delicacies, worldly rhythmic delights and a touch of dessert blues. Brooklyn Raga Massive is a non profit collective of foreword thinking musicians dedicated to raga inspired music.

About the musicians

Neel Murgai is a sitarist, daf player, overtone singer, composer and teacher from Brooklyn, NY. He is the Artistic Director of Brooklyn Raga Massive. Neel has studied sitar for 30 years, currently with Pundit Krishna Bhatt. Overtone singing Neel learned from Batuvshin of the Buriyat performance group Uragsha and from Timothy Hill of the Harmonic Choir. He is a graduate of Goddard College's MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts program. While dedicated to Indian classical music, Neel is especially interested in cross-cultural collaborations. His group with Tripp Dudley, Quadrature, performs music at the intersection of raga, rock, jazz and psychedelia, and will be releasing their debut album in 2025. With BRM, Neel was a composer, music director and producer for their large ensemble homage to Terry Riley, “In D”. He has performed Reena Esmail’s “This Love Between Us” with Musica Viva. Neel has performed or recorded with numerous artists including Bill T. Jones, Taylor Swift, Cyndi Lauper, Wyclef Jean, Andre DeShields, Karsh Kale, Vijay Iyer, Daniel Bernard Romain, Dana Leong, Ellen Stewart, Laraaji, Yuerba Buena, Baba Israel, Raz Mesinai, Mission on Mars, Akim Funk Buddha, Loren Conners and more. He has performed at venues ranging from the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center to jazz clubs such as the Blue Note and at festivals around the world. Neel’s TV performances include Late Night with David Letterman, Will Smith’s 2022 Super Bowl commercial as well as Morgan Sperlok’s Simpsons documentary. Neel played in the orchestra for Disney’s musical theater adaptation of “The Jungle Book” directed by Mary Zimmerman. Neel has composed music for many film, TV, video, theater and dance projects including the features, “The Yes Men Fix the World", which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, "A Decent Arrangement" starring Shabana Azmi, and Deepa Purohit’s play “Elyria”, produced by Atlantic Theater Company.

Tripp Dudley is an accomplished tabla player, drummer and percussionist with performance experience in many diverse musical traditions. His deep groove and virtuosity across multiple instruments have paved the way for his many journeys around the world with many different artists. He has performed with: Pandit Samir Chatterjee, Dan Weiss, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Jamshied Sharifi, Maartin Allcock, Pete Zorn, John Ragusa, Adam Rudolph, Rogério Boccato, Hamid Drake,Tim Keiper, Matt Kilmer, Brooklyn Raga Massive, Simrit, Snatam Kaur, Jai Jagdeesh, Salieu Suso, Mirabai Ceiba, Bolé, Shannon Hayden, Jared May, Salif Bamakora and many others. Tripp’s strength with uncommon rhythmic cycles and polyrhythmic concepts led him to find the tabla, a drum from the North Indian classical tradition. He has been a dedicated student of tabla for over 15 years, and was initiated as a formal disciple by Pandit Samir Chatterjee, continuing a teacher-student lineage that dates back almost 300 years. Tripp has taught many workshops and private lessons, and played thousands of concerts in more than 25 different countries. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, and endorses Saluda.
