Agnès Varda made Uncle Yanco in 1967 — a short, sun-drenched dispatch from San Francisco, where she'd gone to make a documentary and instead stumbled upon a long-lost relative (?) living as a bohemian painter on a houseboat. The film is a delight: loose, curious, and shot through with the particular joy of discovering that eccentricity runs in the family.

At just 18 minutes, it's Varda at her most playful and personal — a proto-essay film that prefigures everything she'd spend the next five decades perfecting.

Hang out afterwards to pour a drink and talk about what we just watched together with curated conversation prompts.

Using purpose-driven piracy, we’re raising awareness, driving advocacy, and providing direct action to help in the restoration of a waterway the world forgot. Our Ark is a vessel of change. A storytelling vehicle charting a new course in bioremediation. A floating classroom, laboratory, and cultural center. A beacon of ecological hope for the federal Superfund site we call home.
