Mallar Bhattacharya is a sarode player of the Maihar Gharana. A disciple of Ustad Aashish Khan and Swara Samrat Ali Akbar Khan, Mallar has captivated audiences worldwide with his mastery of the instrument and his profound musicality. With roots deeply embedded in the rich tradition of dhrupad, khayal, and instrumental music, Mallar's journey began at a young age, and he is a celebrated artist known for his innovative and soulful performances. Mallar's music is deeply traditional, with a focus on raga as the supreme melodic entity determining the mood and impact of the music. He is an expert in the shrutis—the microtonal identities of notes that impart the unique fingerprint of each raga.
At a very early age, Sandip was initiated to the art of Tabla under the tutelage of Pt. Gobinda Bose. Later on he came under the keen supervision of internationally renowned artist Pt. Anindo Chatterjee where he has been taking taalim for the last 18 years. As a performer, Sandip has performed all over the globe across the following countries like USA, Germany, France, Singapore, Georgia, Canada, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Oman, Kuwait, Denmark, Italy, UAE, UK and lots more, in most of the significant concerts like Doverlane Music Conference, Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, Saptak Music Festival, Uttarpara Sangeet Chakra, ITC Sangeet Sammelan, Shankarlal Music Festival, Darbar Festival, Ganga Mahotsav to name a few.
Sandip has accompanied with several globally distinguished artists like Pt. Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ud. Shahid Parvez, Ud. Shujaat Khan, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Vid. Kaushiki Chakrabarty, Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Pt. Ramesh Mishra, Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Purbayan Chatterjee and many more.
Out of the many awards and accolades Sandip has received prestigious awards like The President’s award, Gold Medalist in South Asian Music Festival (twice), State Sangeet Academy Puraskar, National Scholarship from Govt. of India, Empanelled with ICCR and Spic Macay
