On June 4th, experience an evening of transcendent global improvisation with Xalam at Green Room 42. Blending the rhythmic and melodic traditions of India, Africa, and the Middle East through a distinctly modern and exploratory lens, the trio creates music that is hypnotic, transportive, and deeply groove driven. Long on virtuosity and near telepathic interplay, Xalam moves effortlessly between meditative soundscapes and ecstatic improvisation, inviting audiences into a powerful trance like musical journey.

Led by acclaimed oudist Brandon Terzic, the trio also features virtuoso cellist Rufus Cappadocia and master percussionist Matt Kilmer.

Brandon Terzic is a New York based multi instrumentalist whose work bridges Arabic oud traditions, West African influences, jazz improvisation, and blues. He has performed internationally with artists ranging from Henry Threadgill to Alsarah, and has appeared at festivals including WOMAD and Roskilde.

Rufus Cappadocia is renowned for his innovative “ethno slap funk cello” style and his collaborations across Balkan, Middle Eastern, African, and jazz traditions. His dynamic approach to the cello has made him a sought after collaborator in adventurous global music circles.

Matt Kilmer is a master percussionist celebrated for his deeply nuanced rhythmic vocabulary and work across Middle Eastern, jazz, and improvisational music scenes. His percussion work anchors the trio’s expansive sonic explorations with both subtlety and intensity.
