SECRET WORKSHOP is Dennis Lichtman’s brand new album of all-original material in the popular genre known as Jewish-spy-cowboy-jazz-folk. The music is inspired by the unusual, surprising, and revealing objects the composer discovered while dismantling the off-limits basement workshop of his late father, an eccentric and secretive machinist/inventor/tinkerer/mad-scientist.
Dennis Lichtman is a clarinet/mandolin/fiddle triple threat best known for his work with The Brain Cloud, The Lovestruck Balladeers, his duo with Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, and his role as leader of the traditional-jazz jam session at Mona’s Bar since 2007.
The band for tonight’s album release show will be an all-star cast: Sam Reider (accordion/piano), Roy Williams (guitar), Jay Rattman (reeds), Gabe Terracciano (violin), Sean Cronin (bass), Andrew Millar (drums), a trio of vocalists led by Tamar Korn, and Dennis Lichtman on clarinet, mandolin, fiddle, and vocals.
SECRET WORKSHOP is available June 2, 2023 on vinyl LP, CD, and online. The project was made possible with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, with additional support from Kevin McEvoy & Barbara Epstein, Jalopy Theatre, and Welbourne Farm & Inn. Dennis plays Henri Selmer Paris clarinets.
