Jalopy’s resident grant winner Jeff Tocci presents his monograph Animales, pairing creative nonfiction with 94 etchings, in a limited edition hardcover. Taking the viewer on a visual journey through the origins of multicellular life from the Pre-Cambrian to the present, it explores the birth of humanity, the genesis of self expression, and the impact evolution has had on the natural environment. In New York City, Tocci’s homebase as a working artist since 2006, the exhibition will premier on August 24th from 5-8pm at the Jalopy Theatre, who acted as a fiscal sponsor on the book production. On the Latin American side, the public will be greeted at Taller Popular in Oaxaca, MX, on September 27th. In both cities, both the artist and collaborating printmaster, Marco Velasco, will be present to represent the project in both languages for any one on one Q&A for the corresponding communities. The original inked plates will be on display in the state you would see them as they initially headed to press – alongside the original etchings and hardcover volume.
