As the American flag rises in tribute to freedom and identity, Star Spangled Ragas offers an introspective counterpoint — an evening of Indian classical music exploring the shared human values of liberty, reflection, and unity. Join us at Barzakh Café for a meditative performance led by Hansaveena artist Ramanan, accompanied by New York-based tabla prodigy Aditya.
Blending East and West, tradition and innovation, the concert invites listeners into a liminal space shaped by the timeless language of ragas, where music becomes breath, memory, and stillness.
Ramanan is among the few torchbearers of the Hansaveena, a rare string instrument pioneered by his guru, Pandit Barun Kumar Pal. A representative of the Senia Maihar – Pandit Ravi Shankar Gharana and a graded All India Radio artist, his playing is recognized for its technical mastery, melodic depth, and fidelity to raga tradition. He is also the co-founder of Sadhana Arts Academy in Delhi.
Aditya, a rising tabla virtuoso, began his musical journey as a toddler and has since trained under the revered Pandit Samir Chatterjee. Known for his precision, sensitivity, and dynamic accompaniment, he has performed alongside numerous Indian classical masters and is quickly becoming a leading figure of his generation.
