Kahat Kabir is a live performance project exploring the timeless wisdom of Kabir through music, spoken word, and reflection.

Rooted in the Indian classical tradition while remaining accessible to contemporary audiences, each performance brings Kabir’s poetry to life through song, improvisation, storytelling, and deep listening.

At the heart of the project is the belief that music can be both artistic expression and spiritual inquiry. Through carefully curated compositions and spoken reflections, audiences are invited to engage with Kabir’s teachings not as philosophy alone, but as lived experience.

Each performance unfolds as an inner journey — moving through themes of awakening, seeking, fearlessness, surrender, and ultimately the dissolution of separation.

No two performances are identical. Repertoire, musical collaborations, and artistic interpretations evolve organically, allowing each gathering to become a unique encounter with Kabir’s words and wisdom.

Shubha Varma

Shubha Varma is a vocalist, surgeon, arts advocate, and creator of Kahat Kabir.

Drawing on decades of musical training, contemplative practice, and lived experience, she conceived Kahat Kabir as an immersive artistic offering that bridges music, reflection, and spiritual exploration.

As Artistic Director, she curates the repertoire, shapes each performance’s narrative arc, and collaborates with guest artists to create evolving interpretations of Kabir’s poetry.

Kabir’s poetry speaks directly to the human condition.His words challenge illusion, dissolve division, and invite us into a more honest encounter with ourselves.

The intention of Kahat Kabir is not merely to perform Kabir’s poetry, but to create a living encounter with it.

Through music, reflection, and shared presence, audiences are invited to experience Kabir not as history, but as a living voice speaking to our moment.

Kahat Kabir is presented through a rotating collective of musicians, storytellers, and spoken-word artists who share a commitment to artistic excellence, contemplative inquiry, and authentic expression.

Depending on the performance, the ensemble may include voice, tabla, sarod, guitar, harmonium, spoken word, and other instrumental collaborators.
