The Brooklyn Chaabi Project revives the timeless music of Algeria’s Chaabi tradition, performing classics by legends like Dahmane El Harrachi, Kamel Messaoudi, Cheikh El Hasnaoui, and Amar Ezzahi. These songs carry stories of love, exile, and resilience—lyrics that remain deeply relevant and emotionally resonant. Driven by the infectious rhythms of North Africa, the music is both grounding and uplifting, inviting listeners to connect, reflect, and move.
Led by guitarist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Tony Daniels, the project draws on a wide musical lens—from Tangier to Timbuktu to Tehran. A former cellist, ex-noise rocker, and award-winning composer, Daniels brings both reverence and reinvention to this repertoire, celebrating the rich legacy of Chaabi through a Brooklyn lens.
The evening will feature one full set, with a possible open jam to follow. Homemade South Indian vegetarian food by SMB’s Tiffins will be available for purchase.
