Vocalists & multi-instrumentalists, Timothy Hill and Sasha Bogdanowitsch, will present unique solo sets presenting original music for voice and instruments of the folk and world music worlds. Their music is influenced by folk and global music traditions but also expands upon those boundaries creating something entirely new.
For Timothy’s set, he will present an extended work for solo voice showcasing his journey with harmonic singing, and a selection of abstract and song-based work integrating that technique into other musical forms.
Sasha’s set will feature new original songs for voice and mountain dulcimer, clawhammer banjo, African kamelengoni (harp) and karimba (thumb piano), Turkish bendir (drum), Slovakian fuyara (flute) and Cosmicbow (mouthbow.)
Timothy Hill
Singer, composer, guitarist and pianist Timothy Hill’s music comfortably inhabits folk, modern jazz, contemporary classical and completely improvised settings. Singing with David Hykes and the Harmonic Choir, Hill was a pioneer in the blossoming of harmonic (overtone) singing as an art form in the western world. The New York Times described him as “a virtuoso” of that technique.
Hill is also known both as a writer of original songs and an interpreter of a range of traditional material from North and South America and India. During his remarkable musical life, he has performed or recorded with John Cage, Bill Frisell, Jeff Buckley, Pete Seeger, Brandon Ross, David Rothenberg, Pauline Oliveros, Iva Bittová, Madan Gopal Singh, Brad Mehldau and many others.
