What if the world was Femme?

In Prowling the Abyss, creator and solo performer Karen Anne Light becomes Medusa – a modern incarnation of the mythical legend and self-proclaimed ‘patron saint of dykes’ – as she hosts an open mic comedy night. But things quickly unravel as her guests derail the narrative with their own reflections on femininity and queerness: Butter Sandwich strains to share poetic insights about food but needs subtitles because she can’t get off of the floor. Tremble Lip, a breathy, sweet femme, just wants to ride in cars and drink milkshakes with her dream butch. Combining text, clown, and other forms of physical theater, Light leads the audience on an absurd romp through historic tropes of femininity to heal the fragmented Queer Femme spirit.

Get a taste of contemporary Lecoq Movement Theatre in this community mini workshop with movement theatre creating artist and teacher, Karen Anne Light. Students will get to play with elements of Mimodynamics and Elizabeth Baron’s Formwork (creation of theatrical mask forms created with and emerging from the body). Get in your body, get in contact, and get into flow and play!
