Nancy Manocherian’s the cell (Artistic Director Kira Simring) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the incubation and presentation of new works across a variety of disciplines. Founded in 2006, the cell has produced over a dozen critically-acclaimed world premiere productions of new plays, musicals and operas over the past 14 years including Found, The Pink Unicorn (starring Alice Ripley), The Evolution of Mann, Death, Dating, and I Do (Edinburgh Fringe and New York Premiere) Bastard Jones (Drama Desk-Nominated), Crackskull Row (New York Times’ Critics Pick), Hard Times: An American Musical (New York Times Critics’ Pick), and Dinner and Delusion. the cell has served as a home-base for resident organizations such as Sybarite5, Center for Contemporary Opera and Tribeca New Music. the cell is home to the cell residency program: a monthly program that commissions and aids in the development of new works from artists across all disciplines. Projects can range anywhere from workshops to full productions or exhibitions. The amount granted will vary from project to project based on requirements. @thecelltheatre www.thecelltheatre.org.
