What if moving and singing together could be a rehearsal for the world we’re dreaming of?

In this two-hour workshop, we will explore movement and song as an emergent practice in which our individual bodies and voices co-create complex, dynamic and cohesive collective relationship. We’ll build layers of rhythms and harmonies, marrying them to movement and exploring decentralized group “flight” through space, like starlings in their interdependent dance of Murmuration.

Through guided somatic movement explorations, B Dean will guide us in a practice softening into resonance, moving with the breath, and tuning/attuning to ourselves and each other. We will open pathways for collective listening and embodied connection.

elias wolf will guide us into the songs already pulsing in us and around us. Through improvised vocal play, we’ll build layers of rhythms and harmonies that support a deepening of interdependence and interconnection. No need to "know what you're doing." Just your voice, your willingness to listen, and the wisdom of the group.

No dance or group singing experience necessary, open to anybody with a body.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

B Dean (they/he) is an earthbound and airborne dancer, queer world-builder, and white transboy based in unceded Ohlone territory (the Bay Area) for 14 years. They perform with BANDALOOP, Flyaway Productions, Zaccho Dance Theater, Sean Dorsey Dance, Joe Goode Performance Group, and Circo Zero. Under the name BODYSTORM, they create site-specific performances and workshops that highlight the intelligent technologies of nature and body.

elias wolf (they/them) is a heart-forward, moon-guided, water-bound singer-composer, teacher, vocal director and arranger, improviser, community-weaver, and spirited world-builder creating music and shared spaces—stewarding what they call “re-humanizing queer song magic for the revolution.” elias has been at the musical helm of over 15 choirs and vocal groups over the past 20+ years including Oaklan's five-time national champion high school a cappella group Vocal Rush. Raised on unceded Kalapuya land (Eugene, OR) with roots in Oakland, CA, elias centers interdependence, play, closeness, love, and liberation in all of their work.
