ABOUT

A monastery-style museum on a terraced hillside in Staten Island, home to one of the oldest collections of Tibetan and Himalayan art in the United States. Fully opened in 1947 and visited by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1991, the campus holds bronzes, thangka paintings, ritual objects, and a working altar, surrounded by gardens and a view across the island. Our public programs bring Himalayan traditions into conversation with living cultures worldwide through lectures, gallery talks, artist talks, concerts, and dance. Weekly meditation, tai chi, and yoga classes round out a calendar built for looking, listening, and practice.
