Hosted by Elizabeth Knell, end-of-life doula, and Chris Dingman, vibraphonist

Grief doesn't end when the world moves on after a death. Long after the casseroles stop arriving and the condolence cards go quiet, the missing remains, often with nowhere to go. This is a space to bring someone who mattered back into the room for one evening, whether that was a person or a pet, a beloved relationship or a complicated one. You'll be held by community, memory, and a live music healing journey.

Bring a photo, an object, or just a name. Elizabeth Knell will open the evening by guiding us in building a small table of remembrance together: a shared altar where your loved one, and everyone else's, has a place in the room. If you'd like, you're also welcome to create a simple keepsake during this time to place on the altar or take home with you (materials provided). From there, Elizabeth will lead a gentle grounding and reflection, inviting you to bring your loved one to mind, to feel their presence: a memory, a voice, a sensation that's uniquely theirs.

Then, acclaimed vibraphonist Chris Dingman, whose work has been described by The New York Times as "hypnotizing," will lead a live trance healing music journey. Chris plays the vibraphone, a unique and beautiful instrument, in a singular, virtuosic way, using waves and layers of sound alongside his voice to bring listeners into a meditative state where healing, connection, and inspiration can occur. In his grief-support work, Chris's music invites listeners into a gentle space to feel, process, and simply be with whatever arises in the moment.

We'll close with a simple shared ritual: each of us speaking the name of who we honored tonight, before returning gently back into the room together.

This is an evening of honoring, remembering, and carrying forward. No experience with ritual, meditation, or grief work is needed, just a willingness to bring your loved one, and yourself, into the room. Come as you are, grieving however you grieve.

About Elizabeth Knell

Elizabeth Knell is a coach, End-of-Life doula and planner, and grief guide who walks with people through life's in-between spaces: the moments of change, loss, and uncertainty that ask us to begin again. She brings compassion, calm, and presence to these thresholds, guiding and advocating for individuals and families as they navigate change, loss, and life's final chapter. Blending practical guidance, emotional support, and spiritual tools, Elizabeth helps clients ease fear, create meaning, honor their wishes, and step into their next chapter with dignity, peace, and alignment.

Elizabeth is an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and a Going With Grace-trained End-of-Life Doula, affiliated with NEDA (National End-of-Life Doula Alliance) and INELDA (International End-of-Life Doula Association). She is the founder of Go From There, an end-of-life doula and grief facilitation practice based in the Rivertowns, where she also hosts the Rivertowns Death Café, leads death education workshops, and supports individuals and families through hospice visiting. Educated by Compassion & Choices on end-of-life laws, she supports individuals and families through end-of-life decision-making, including New York's Medical Aid in Dying Act. Her work is rooted in a belief that facing mortality honestly, with the right guidance and community, can bring not just comfort, but clarity and meaning to how we live.

About Chris Dingman

Known for his distinctive, flowing approach as a vibraphonist and composer, Chris has worked with legendary artists Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and many of today's jazz, creative, and world music luminaries.

Working in NYC since 2002, Chris's trajectory was forever changed when, in 2018, he played and recorded music as an act of care for his father in his final months of life. This music became the 5-hour extended album Peace. Since then, Chris has brought his special brand of healing music far and wide, from live sessions at Omega Institute and The Rubin Museum of Art, to presentations for the American College of Physicians and the Gold Foundation, and Transformations for Grief, an online grief-support community program for which Chris serves as director.

Chris has been profiled by NPR, the New York Times, AMNY, and many other publications, and has received fellowships and grants from Chamber Music America, New Music USA, South Arts, and the Thelonious Monk Institute.
