Born in a family having strong music tradition, Debajit started learning sitar at a very tender age under the tutelage of India’s one of the most renowned sitar exponents, Pandit Monilal Nag of Vishnupur Gharana. After that, he took talim from another sitar exponent Late Prof.Santosh Banerjee of Rampur-senia gharana,ex-head of the Department of Instrumental music of Rabindra Bharati University. By fusing these two gharanas, under which he took talim, Debajit is endeavouring evolve a style of his own. Debajit, as an artiste,sticks to the priorities of raga development with due regard to the depth and dignity of melody during his performance. Debajit stood First Class First in M.A. in Instrumental Music securing highest marks in the entire Faculty of Fine Arts with Gold Medal from Rabindra Bharati University and also qualified “NET”. He is a “Top Grade” artiste of All India Radio. He is an artiste of national and international exposure.He travelled extensively to Russia, USA and Canada.He is also an empanelled artiste of ICCR.He has his audio CD in his credit, published by Bihan Music of Kolkata. Presently he is attached with Banasthali Vidyapith, Jaipur, Rajasthan, as an Assistant Professor of Department of Performing Arts.
