Opportunity Music Project (OMP) presents Sacred and Profane, an immersive evening centered on Claude Debussy's luminous Danse sacrée et danse profane (Sacred and Profane Dances). For OMP's second annual side-by-side concert, advanced students share the stage with the world-class musicians who mentor them and special guest artists, including internationally renowned harpist Rita Costanzi and the critically acclaimed Ivalas Quartet.

At the heart of the program is Debussy's Danse sacrée et danse profane, a work of extraordinary color and atmosphere that brings harp and strings together in music that is sensual, mysterious, and radiant. The program also includes spirited works by David Diamond and bold contemporary compositions by OMP faculty member Kunal Gala and alumnus Alfredas Leung, bringing a raw, energetic edge to the evening.

Doors - 4:30pm
Concert - 5:00pm

Rita Costanzi
The first time Rita Costanzi touched the strings of a harp, she felt an instant, spiritual connection that continues to guide her life and her artistry. Graduating from the Eastman School of Music with Highest Distinction and the Performer’s Certificate as a student of Eileen Malone, she then furthered her studies with Bernard Zighera of the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood, Marcel Grandjany in New York and Jacqueline Borot in France. Rita twice won the American Harp Society’s National Competition and received the Lily Laskine Award for the most outstanding solo harp recital. Formerly Principal Harp of the Vancouver Symphony and CBC Radio Orchestra she has also appeared as a soloist with orchestras throughout North and South America. In recent years she’s given master classes in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Poland, Canada and the United States. Her aim is to inspire students to achieve their highest potential as artists, musicians and human beings.

Described by the Vancouver Sun as “an artist of immense gifts”, Rita has made several recordings, including one devoted to contemplation and healing. Her most recent album, “Amoroso” with the acclaimed oboist Alex Klein, features romantic chamber music classics and new compositions. This intimate and reflective collection has been downloaded more than four million times.

Rita's one-woman show, “Woman on a Ledge” features her playing solo harp and relating her lived experience as a woman and artist. Her memoir “The Strings of My Heart” explores the vulnerabilities of a female musician torn between the needs of her artist's soul and those of her husband and children.

In the words of Irish author Treasa O’Driscoll, Rita’s playing “never fails to touch the souls of listeners in deep and unexpected ways.”

Ivalas Quartet
Hailed for its playing of “tremendous heart and beauty” (The Strad) and the “pure pleasure” of its performances (Steve Smith, Night After Night), the Ivalas Quartet has been changing the face of classical music since 2017 with a mission to enrich the classical music world by spotlighting past and present BIPOC composers alongside the standard repertory. They have championed the music of Eleanor Alberga, Gabriela Lena Frank, Osvaldo Golijov, Jessie Montgomery, Angélica Negrón, Iván Enrique Rodríguez, Alvin Singleton, and George Walker, and premiered Derrick Skye’s Deliverance through a commission from Caramoor and recorded Carlos Simon’s Warmth from Other Suns for Rising Sun Music. They were the augural Fellowship Ensemble of the Kaufman Music Center in New York City and resident ensemble of the New York Philharmonic’s Very Young Composers program in 2025-2026, and the 2024-2025 Curator/Ensemble of the Schneider Concerts at The New School. The Ivalas Quartet was the Graduate Resident String Quartet at The Juilliard School from 2022 to 2024, where they studied with the Juilliard String Quartet. They were previously in residence at the University of Colorado-Boulder under the mentorship of the Takács Quartet. In turn, they have devoted themselves to educational and community outreach, working in tandem with such organizations as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, New Latin Wave, and countless public schools throughout the U.S.
