Artiste Profile Sohini Singha Mojumdar is a very talented vocalist of her generation. She is not only an efficient Khayal singer but also equally marked as a very bright semi classical and light classical singer. Sohini is certainly considered to be one of the contemporary musicians of her generation. Background: Sohini started her initial training in music with her maternal grandfather Late Rabindranath Chattaraj at the age of 4 years. She got her voice trained under the guidance of her grandfather. Simultaneously she started learning classical music from her mother Smt Sanghita Mojumdar. Her introduction to Khayal and Thumri is initiated by her mother. Later on she continued her rigorous ‘taleem’ in Khayal from Pt. Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, a stalwart of Vishnupur Gharana from the age of 10. Sohini also got inspired by Semi Classical and Light Classical Music. She is priviledged to learn Thumri/Dadra from Vidushi Suranjana Bose for sometime and lately from Vidushi Dalia Rahut, a senior disciple of Late Girija Devi. Sohini has also received refined ‘taleem’in Khayal from Pandit Tushar Dutta. Academics: Sohini has graduated with Honours in English from Calcutta University. She also holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from West Bengal University of Technology. Achievements: • First position in AIR Music Competition in Bhajan, 2007. • Empanelled artiste of ICCR in Khayal, 2008. • First position in Kheyal, ‘Rajya Sangeet Academy’ , Kolkata, 2009. • Winner of Talent search contest organized by Doverlane Music Academy, Thumri-2009. • Winner of Talent search contest organized by Doverlane Music Academy, Khayal-2009. • ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio since 2011. • Winner of Pratima Chandra Memorial Award organized by Doverlane Music Academy, 2016. • Acquired ‘Sangeet Prabhakar’ title from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad (U.P) • Winner of ‘Khazana’ Artist Aloud Ghazal Talent Hunt -2019. • Awarded ICMC artist Appreciation award- 2020. • Winner of ‘SAMMAN’-2020 organised by Shankar Mahadevan Academy and Rithwik Foundation. Performances: Sohini regularly performs in various concerts in India. She has already performed in many prestigious concerts and festivals around the country. Her performances are very well received and appreciated by the audiences.
