ABOUT
The theater was built in 1984 and quickly became the original home of four of the most successful shows in Off-Broadway history: Forbidden Broadway, Forever Plaid, Spamilton, and Celebrity Autobiography. Celebrity Autobiography is now in its ninth year at the Triad, and a month-long workshop of Seth Rudetsky’s Disaster went on to become a full Broadway production at the Nederlander Theatre. From the beginning, the Triad has been a place where new work is developed, tested, and launched. Over the years, our stage has hosted an extraordinary range of performers from the worlds of comedy, music, and theater, including Martin Short, Kristen Wiig, Kevin Hart, Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Broderick, Bob Weir, Vanessa Williams, Brooke Shields, Paul Rudd, Slash, George Benson, Greg Allman, Bebe Neuwirth, Tracey Morgan, Tommy Tune, Ben Vereen, Air Supply, Dion, and many others. Lady Gaga made her professional debut here as part of the Circle in the Square Cabaret Program. In the 1980s, artists such as Christopher Walken, Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minnelli, Jack Nicholson, and Robert De Niro also used the theater for their own private weekly performances. The Triad has served as a backdrop for film, television, and major commercial productions, including a Bose TV commercial, VH1 programming with Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, and an episode of Difficult People filmed by Amy Poehler. The theater has been featured on the covers of Manhattan Magazine and Miami Magazine with Adrien Brody. Independently owned and operated by Peter Martin and Rick Newman, the Triad continues to be an artist-driven space dedicated to original work, bold performances, and close, unforgettable audience experiences.
