ABOUT
Amrita Sarkhel is a promising young classical vocalist. She stared her musical training from her mother Smt. Sangita Sarkhel. Then she was guided by Dr. Tapasi Ghosh and Pt. Manojit Mallick. She also received training of instrumental music (sitar) from her father, Professor Sabyasachi Sarkhel. Presently she is under the tutelage of Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan, a renowned representative of Agra Gharana. Amrita has also experienced an extensive taleem of Purav-ang Thumri Dadra from Late Vidushi Purnima Chaudhuri of Banaras gharana. Now she is continuing her training of light classical music from Vidushi Sucharita Gupta of Banaras. Amrita completed her Master’s degrees both in Zoology and Khayal from Visva-Bharati University and Rabindra Bharati University respectively. She is now a Ph.D. scholar of Rabindra Bharati University. She is now working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Performing Arts, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University in Purulia. She secured a number of prizes and awards in many platforms like Dover lane Music Competition, All India Radio Competition, National Youth Festival, CCRT national scholarship for young artists etc. Amrita is a regular artiste of Akashvani Kolkata and Doordarshan. She has performed in many prestigious stages all over India.
