SHIRIN SENGUPTA NATH Shirin Sengupta Nath is an internationally acclaimed Indian Classical Vocalist from Kolkata, India having performed in major Music Festivals & venues in more than 25 countries since last 20years. She is one of the youngest “A” Grade Artist of All India Radio & Doordarshan & an ex “A” Grade Scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy,Kolkata. Shirin had started to learn Music at a very early age from her parents Late Shri Ramani Mohan Nath & Smt. Sunanda Nath followed by learning Indian Classical Raga Music under the tutelage of PANDIT A. KANAN & PANDIT ARUN BHADURI for over 15 years. Since 1996 she has been under the guidance of her present Guru PADMASHREE PANDIT ULHASH KASHALKAR as a Scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy. She has also learned Light classical music under the guidance of LATE SMT. SIPRA BOSE. Shirin was awarded the prestigious CCRT National Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India & Topper in both Graduation & Master’s Exam from RABINDRA BHARATI UNIVERSITY, KOLKATA & is the winner of President’s award for securing first position in both Classical(KHEYAL) & Semi Classical Music(RAGAPRADHAN) in All India Radio Competition, JADU BHATTA Memorial Award, Ustad Amir Khan Memorial Award & HMV Ravi Kichlu Foundation award ,Dagar Brothers’ Memorial award,Girija Shankar memorial award to name a few.Shirin is the winner of all categories in music competition organized by Dover Lane Music competition & “Sangeet Visharad” from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Shirin has performed major music festivals & venues in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Estonia, Syria, UAE, represented INDIA in numerous International Music Festivals including Festival of India in Switzerland, Banga Mela in the United States, Kabir Cultural Centre, Montreal, Canada, INDIKA Festival, UK, Banga Sanskriti Sammelan in England,Guru Purnima Festival & Diwali Festival in the Netherlands, Orient Festival in Estonia, World Music Festival, Bolzano, Italy, Nobel Laureate’s meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Festival of Ancient Music in Algeria & International Music Festival in Damascus, SYRIA to name a few. Shirin also performed at the State Music Festival Kolkata,EZCC Kolkata,Ministry of Culture, ITC-SRA homecoming festival Kolkata, Ganga Mahotsav in Varanasi ,Heritage Festival Hyderabad, ICCR, Mumbai,ICCR,Kolkata & ICCR ,Delhi to name a few.Shirin has performed extensively around different parts of India under the banner of SPIC MACAY. She has got more than 25 CDs & DVDs releases from around the world. Besides singing Indian Classical Music(KHEYAL) Shirin has also sang for Indian & International Films, Telefilms & Musical projects like “KYABAAT”,”CORAL OF LIFE” & “ANOURAAG” directed by her husband Sarode Player & Music Composer Pandit Ranajit Sengupta.Shirin’s Bengali Ragapradhan & modern Song album “PHIRE PAWA” have been highly acclaimed by Music lovers around the globe. Shirin is the President & acting Guru of the MONOMANJARI INSTITUTE OF PERFORMING ARTS & RESEARCH, KOLKATA since 2006 & besides her busy concert schedules she is teaching Indian Classical & Semi Classical Music to the students regularly. She has been invited as one of the Judges & Examiners for the Master’s exam from Rabindra Bharati University,Kolkata, Viswabharati University, Shantiniketan, Dover Lane Music Competition, State Music Academy & in several occasions around India at the UNIFEST organized by Association of Indian Universities(AIU) . Shirin’s live concert was broadcasted by the Swiss Radio station DRS in the year 2002.Shirin has performed for the prestigious Akashvani Akhil Bharatiya Karjyakram(National programme of music by All India Radio) in 2013 and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan in Pune in 2019. Shirin has sang for a feature film” DHUSAR PANDULIPI” & for a TV serial for E TV Bangla along with her students. Many of her students have been awarded Zonal, State & National level Music competitions since many years. Shirin has been a Senior Fellow of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and is pursuing her PhD from Visva Bharati University presently.
