ABOUT
Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury is an exponent of the Rampur Senia gharana in the venerated lineage of, Pandit Birendra Kishore Roy Chowdhury and Pandit Subroto Roy Chowdhury. Indrajit’s primary talim has been in the veen-kar style of sitar. Drawing on the techniques and idioms of the veena, this style is heard less often these days. Currently residing in New York, USA, Indrajit maintains an active performance sIndrajit Roy-Chowdhury is an international sitarist, composer and music producer. As a sitarist, Indrajit received training in the traditional style from Pt. Subroto Roy Chowdhury of the Rampur Senia Gharana. Indrajit ascended to the stage assisting his Guru in concerts in India, Europe, and the US. After embarking on a solo career, Indrajit continued to accompany his Guru as well as other renowned artists such as Ustad Ghulam Ali. Indrajit’s solo concerts have been presented in some of the prestigious venues throughout the world such as The Dover Lane Music Conference, The Uttarpara Music Conference, The Kennedy Center, Washington DC; The Lincoln Center, New York; Concordia Arts, Poznan, Poland; Shared Values music festival, London; Chhayanaut Auditorium, Dhaka; and The Berlin Indian Embassy, among others. Indrajit maintains a vigorous touring schedule across continents, and was able to continue to perform for international organizations through virtual programs during the 2020-21 lockdown periods. As a collaborative artist, Indrajit has performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra, the Michigan Philharmonic and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Indrajit has served as a visiting faculty member at the University of Pensylvania, and currently teaches in New York City through his organization Kolkata Sitar School. His album credits include ‘Evening Rising’ and ‘Meditation and Musings’ with the Indian label Bihaan Music, ‘India’ volume 1 & 2 with IMG music and ‘Raga Veda’ the first Indian Classical album from the mega label TIPS Industries, India.
